Bar Waiter The Bar Waiter is responsible for drink services in lounges, at pool areas and dining rooms. You are responsible for keeping your work station clean, orderly and properly set. The Bar Waiter must learn the bar menu and know the glass and garnish for each drink.
Minimum requirements: High School education or higher; a minimum of one (1) year beverage-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bar Tender The Bartender must provide fast, professional and courteous service to the guests. As a member of the Beverage Staff, you will need to serve several passengers at your station at one time. You must handle orders smoothly, efficiently and pleasantly. All Bartenders must comply with the United States Public Health Sanitary rules. Most importantly, you must know your cocktail/bar mixes and know the proper glass and garnish for each drink.
Minimum requirements:High school education or vocational; a minimum of three (3) years beverage-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Casino Cashier This job consists of receiving and paying out money and keeping records of exchange transactions in the shipboard casino. Persons in this position will provide customer assistance through the exchange of various types of monetary notes, coins, credit and casino chips and helpful information. Cashiers are responsible for smooth, efficient and accurate monetary exchange. Persons holding this position are required to maintain cage security as well as accuracy of various reports regarding authorization forms, reconciliation of transactions and exchange summary reports.
Minimum requirements:High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum one (1) to two (2) years experience in monetary exchange.
Casino Dealer Dealers are responsible for conducting a variety of casino games according to the rules of the game and Casino Operations policies. Dealers ensure that wagering is carried out properly and bets are handled appropriately. Dealers are responsible for the accurate exchange and recording of monetary transactions at the table. They must ensure appropriate pace of the game through the handling of cards, dice, chips, money and other gaming equipment. Dealers must consistently inform players of the rules and what is occurring as the game progresses. Courtesy and helpfulness to players are fundamental requirements of the position. They must adapt to the special requirements of a living/working environment onboard.
Minimum requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Two years continuous dealing experience in Blackjack and American Roulette. Dice and other Casino games are an asset.
Computer Specialist This job consists of operating and maintaining all the aspects of the computer system, hardware and software. You must have thorough knowledge of DOS and/or UNIX; Windows NT 3.51 and/or Windows NT 4.0 Server & Workstations. Windows 95/98. The successful candidate must have thorough knowledge of network operating systems management, configuration, techniques, and topologies to include Ethernet, thick—net/thin-net, etc. You must also have knowledge of 10 Base-T/100 Base-T Hubs, MPEG video and digital photograph and graphic files; SCSI, ISA and PCI expansion cards. Experience with the major software applications.
Minimum requirements:Must have a minimum of two (2) years experience or a combination of related education and technical experience.
Cruise Staff Cruise Staff members coordinate and participate in passenger activities such as bingo, arts and crafts, masquerade, horse racing, and sport activities. The Cruise staff is responsible in ensuring that passengers have a fun-filled cruise experience. Cruise Staff also participate in duties such as directing guests to and from their cabins; answering any questions guests may have; assisting in compulsory life and safety precautions; staff introductions; coordinating the flow of passengers through reception lines at different events; coordinating tour counts, tour departure; assisting in the coordination of audio/visual equipment for shows. A Cruise Staff show may be an essential part of the fun-filled cruise requiring talented staff members.
Minimum requirements:Strong public relations skills, entertainment talent(s). Post Secondary education in Recreation/Leisure studies or Theater Arts an asset.
Desktop Publisher The positions entails preparing the vessel’s daily newsletter, promotional flyers/bios and distributes in paper formal and electronically. There are also a variety of administrative support functions for Hotel Manager.
Minimum requirements: Two to three years experience using intermediate features of Adobe PageMaker vs. 6.5. Understanding of layouts and use of design elements including graphics, digital photos, line art, vector images, etc. Ability to type 40 to 5o words per minute. Excellent knowledge of personal computers in a Windows environment with LOTUS, email, Word, excel and related printers and equipment.
Disc/Video Jockey The Disc/Video Jockey works in the ship’s Night Club playing “top 40’s” music and videos, as well as performing cruise staff duties when assigned. The employee must provide excellent customer service accommodating all passenger requests. The Disc Jockey may also be required to be Master of Ceremonies for various activities on board the ship. In addition the Disc Jockey is responsible for maintaining and operating all required equipment and maintain an inventory of the music collection.
Minimum requirements:Previous experience as a Disc/Video Jockey with knowledge of the Top 40 Music, as well as music from the 50’s to the 90’s.
Executive Chef Directly overseas, together with key management team, the operation and maintenance of the main galley and storage areas, satellite food preparation areas, crew galley, cafes, outer island preparation kitchens (when ship is in port), bell station. The Executive Chef ensures that company policies, procedures and activities relating to food preparation and the operation of the Food Department on board the ship are carried out in an efficient manner.
Minimum requirements:High School or equivalent education - cook apprenticeship or equivalent. Eight to ten years of progressive food preparation experience in first class hotels/restaurants/cruise ships.
Executive Sous Chef Directly oversees, together with his/her key management team, the food operation and maintenance of the main galley and storage areas, satellite food preparation areas, crew galley, cafes, food preparation pantries, galley and bell station. The executive Sous Chef ensures that company policies, procedures and activities relating to food preparation and the the operation of the Food Department on board the ship are carried out in an efficient manner.
Minimum requirements: High School or equivalent education - cook apprenticeship or equivalent training. Six to eight years of progressive food preparation experience in first class hotels/restaurants/cruise ships.
Fitness Staff The Fitness Staff provide all fitness and sports activities for passengers. Aerobic instructors must be certified in CPR and First Aid. Additional Cruise Staff duties may apply.
Minimum requirements:Certified Aerobic/Fitness Instructor, strong customer service skills. Must also be certified in CPR and First Aid.
Florist To create and maintain flower arrangements onboard the ship as well as the maintenance of all plants onboard. Operate flowers stand, sell flowers to guest or take order for delivery to guest’s cabins. During each cruise conduct floral arrangement demonstration seminar for guest.
Minimum requirements:Must be a certified florist with min. of two years experience at a reputable florist.
Gift Shop Staff The Gift Shop staff are responsible for providing excellent customer service to the guests. Product knowledge is essential when working in the Duty Free Shops. This position requires strong team work and flexibility due to the variety of goods available on board the vessel. Essential duties and responsibilities include greeting customers, selling merchandise to customers, stocking shelves, counters or tables with merchandise, setting up advertising displays, table sales and daily promotions. The types of merchandise available on board cruise ship include:
Fragrance and Cosmetics for men and women; Crystal, porcelain and gift ware; Jewelry –fine and costume; Souvenir items; Liquor; Toiletries and sundries; Designer boutique; Clothing – sportswear, formal and souvenir wear.
Minimum requirements: A minimum two (2) year retail experience is required.
Group/Event Coordinator The Group Coordinator is a key contact aboard the ship for VIP group leaders and passengers with special needs. The basis of this job is to coordinate and ensure that all group functions onboard the vessel proceed smoothly, professionally and efficiently. The Group Coordinator works directly under the Hotel Manager and coordinates with all department heads, managers and supervisors to ensure that all proceeds smoothly with the group functions on board. The main objective is to assist the groups with any onboard functions that occur and to provide information of the proper contact for any port of call functions.
Minimum requirements:Previous experience as a Group/Event Coordinator/Administrator or Trip Director; Experience in Public relations is required.
Guest Relations The Guest Relations Officer is responsible in ensuring the guest receives total passenger satisfaction. You must be capable of handling all complaints and problems to the guest’s satisfaction. Duties and responsibilities include sales of stamps, postcards, foreign exchange; signing up guests for all galley tour visits; registering repeaters, VIP, and travel agent parties and forwarding all invitations to the guests; maintaining lost and found area and records; reporting any cabin change requests; solving any guest complaints or problems; making ship announcements in several languages as directed; validating guest’s Credit Card for all ship purchases; cashing traveler checks and currency after banking hours.
Minimum requirements:Strong public relations/customer service experience. Additional languages are a definite asset for this position.
Host/Hostess The Host/Hostess is the public relations liaison between the guests and the cruise lines. This position entails being familiar with the company, management and all corporate methods and procedures. Responsibilities include acting as the Captain’s social coordinator; arranging attendance for the Captain’s cocktail party; supervising and maintaining the guest library; organizing various activities.
Minimum requirements: Ability to speak and read English; ability to write routine reports and to be comfortable with public speaking. This is not an entry-level position. Additional languages a plus.
International Host Manages the FluentSeas program onboard the vessel to provide language assistance and translation to non-English guests in order for them to understand and enjoy all aspects of the cruise experience.
Minimum requirements:Must be able to speak, read and write English, Spanish, German and French.
Librarian This position is responsible for the on board Library program and administration of Cruise Programs reports. The Librarian has the complete management of the Guest Library program.
Minimum requirements:Individual must possess strong written and oral communication skills, customer service skills and is able to work under pressure and communicate effectively with al levels of management and employees. Exceptional organizational and superior computer skills are a must. Microsoft and Lotus essential.
Lifeguard The Lifeguard is responsible for supervising the safety of the guest in the pool area.
Minimum requirements: Current Lifeguard certification is necessary and previous experience working as a Lifeguard.
Nurse The Nurse will provide the passengers and crew with medical care under the direction of the physician.
Minimum requirements:A diploma or degree in Nursing. Preference will be given to nurses with emergency room or ICU experience.
P.A.D.I Open Water Instructors The position involves working both on board a ship on a private island. You are paid in U.S. Dollars and receive excellent benefits. You will be required to pass a physical ability test, which consists of the following:
1 mile run to be finished in 9 minutes or less
35 consecutive push-ups
50 consecutive sit-ups
400 yd swim demonstrating 2 strokes in 9 minutes or less using a mask, snorkel and fins.
Wearing the above, an inert swimmer must be towed 50 yards demonstrating mouth rescue breathing.
Minimum requirements:You must have 50 certifications, of which 15 to 20 are in open water. Discover Scuba Diver accepted.
Photographer The job exists for the purpose of persuading passengers to pose for pictures and operate a still 35 mm camera and a variety of photographic accessories to photograph them using color film.
Photographers are responsible for photographing passengers at a variety of events according to established schedules and policies.
Minimum requirements: A minimum of two years experience in the field and/or a photography diploma or degree.
Purser Staff The Purser is a key “front line” contact for the passenger. Duties are similar of that at the front desk of a fine hotel. The Purser has to assure that they provide total customer satisfaction. Duties include giving information; foreign exchange, handling customer complaints and inquiries; cabin changes, lost and found, safety deposit boxes, assisting with custom and immigration.
Minimum requirements:Post secondary education in hospitality is an asset or at least two (2) years experience in a related field. It is essential to have strong customer service skills. Additional languages are an asset.
Program Coordinator The main responsibilities of the Program Coordinator is to provide administrative and clerical services as requested by the Hotel Manager, as well as preparing daily programs and all other onboard printed materials.
Minimum requirements:Must be able to type at least 60 wpm; Shorthand is an asset. Prior experience in using various computer software programs and graphics. The ideal candidate must be organized.
Shore Excursions The Shore Excursion Department is responsible for selling the various excursions to the passengers. The Shore Excursion staff also provides tour talks for each port of call. Other responsibilities include some accounting and bookkeeping; coordinating tours with tour operators.
Minimum requirements: Previous Shore Excursion and/or Tour Operator experience. Languages are a definite asset.
Slot Technician Slot Technicians are responsible for seeing that slot machines, moneychangers, coin-handling equipment and video games are functional, well maintained and regularly serviced. In addition you will provide customer service assistance to passengers, explaining games and jackpot payouts; a strong “floor presence” is necessary. Slot technicians are responsible for efficiently assisting the head slot technician to ensure all machines are functional and ready for play, and preparing requisitions for spare parts and orders.
Minimum requirements: High School diploma or equivalent. Training in repair of electrical, mechanical and/or electronic equipment.
Sommelier The Sommelier’s main responsibility is to serve and suggest international wines to passengers. A Sommelier must know his/her wine list, know the character of each wine and be able to discuss and suggest wines to passengers who ask for advise. Wines must be served at correct temperatures and in the proper manner. All Sommeliers are required to carry their sommelier cup. Essential duties include wine deliveries, cabin and dining room service. Extra duties may apply.
Minimum requirements:High School Education or equivalent; a minimum of five (5) years beverage-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience .
Sound/Light Technician The Sound/Light Technician provides professional sound and light support for the onboard entertainment shows and other passengers activities. He/She sets up, runs and maintains the sound/light equipment and may run the in-house video system if a video technician is not on staff.
The Sound Technician must have experience in the following: mixing front of the house systems as well as monitor mixes simultaneously, experience with multiple wireless microphones, some degree of ability at troubleshooting and minor repairs of broken equipment, ability to mix all styles of bands from rock to big band and large vocal ensembles.
Light Technician must have the ability and experience to program and manually run modern light consoles, experience in programming robotic lights, e.g. roboscan, varilights, wybron color mover.
Minimum requirements: Should have a minimum of three (3) years technical experience. Must be proficient in all aspects of their job, e.g. audio engineering, lighting control, design and rigging maintenance in a theatrical background.
Sports Staff Leads and participates in a variety of Sports Deck activities such as climbing wall, in-line skating, golf simulator, volleyball, basketball, golf course, ping-pong shuffle board, etc. by performing the essential duties andresponsibilities.
Minimum requirements: High School diploma or equivalent. Training in repair of electrical, mechanical and/or electronic equipment.
Stage Staff The primary function of the Stage Staff is to support and supplement Cruise Staff activities and entertainment programs as administered by the Assistant Cruise Director or Stage Manager. Stage Staff duties include set up and break down of various events such as : Bingorama sessions, Horse Racing, Sports Award presentations, various musical band presentations, group meeting, theme night productions, etc.
Stage Staff operate the spot lights for the production shows, celebrity star times, Cruise Staff Welcome and Farewell shows and show band presentations as required. Stage staff stock and maintain a working inventory in the various prize lockers, assist with the monthly loading and stocking of all Cruise staff supplies from shore side, deliver and distribute all departmental paperwork a such as: mail, printing, memos, etc.
Minimum requirements:One year physical fitness and/or recreational sports instruction background with resorts, sports facilities or related recreational facilities. Master of Ceremonies experience preferred. Ability to provide one-on-one rock climbing wall instruction. Knowledge of rules for various sports such as basketball, volleyball, golf, etc.
Telephone Operator This position is responsible for operating the room service switchboard and taking room service orders correctly and in a timely manner. Answers main switchboard calls when staff is not on duty.
Minimum requirements: Minimum of one (1) year experience in hotel or guest services. Must have a working knowledge of basic switchboard, telephones, fax machines, computers and associated office equipment. Must have a pleasant speaking voice and manners. Languages are an asset.
Video Programmer The Videographer is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the ship’s broadcast booth. This includes the operation of the satellite, programming the broadcast room such as playing of movies, tuning in local TV and radio, updating the Comsats news service, in-room music and the dining room when necessary. The videographer is also responsible for shooting and editing videotapes for both onboard productions and fleet wide training tapes. The videographer may be asked to travel to do on location shootings for the above.
The Videographer must have experience and ability in troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing video walls, creating custom video walls programs for star acts, groups, etc. creating graphics for the cruise events and information channel, video tape editing in various formats, videography in field and studio situations, live TV Directing, call and switch live Multiple Camera programs, an understanding of satellite broadcasting and tracking and understanding of computers with respect to Video Production.
Minimum requirements: A VHS demo tape is required from all applicants of previous work (inclusive of shooting , editing and post-production).
Waiter The Wait’s department main responsibility is to serve the passengers needs in a friendly and positive manner using the basic service procedures found in any first class restaurant. Essential duties include serving all non alcoholic beverages to the passengers and constantly providing refills, learning the names and ingredients of all foods being served; attending all training meetings.
Most cruise lines require that all Dining Room Waiters commence as Assistant Waiters using the basic service procedures according to Cruise Line Standards. Promotion from Assistant Waiter to Dining Room Waiter is a very realistic goal if you want to succeed. It is your responsibility to utilize the training and make it work providing excellent service. As a member of the Food and Beverage team, you will play an important part in a passenger’s enjoyment of their cruise experience working with your fellow Food Team members to achieve the same goal in preparing the best meals possible. As a Dining Room Waiter you may be required to participate in various theme evenings parading through the dining room and singing songs, greeting guests and escorting them to their seats and taking food and beverage orders.
Minimum requirements:High School Diploma and apprenticeship or diploma in Hospitality Management; or six to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working Chef The Sous Chef ensures all company procedures and activities relating to food preparation on board the ship are carried out in a smooth and efficient manner. Responsible for hands on support of the Executive Chef in all food preparation areas.
Minimum requirements: Minimum requirements: Cook apprenticeship or similar training. A minimum of six years food preparation experience in all stations of the hot galley. Able to lead oversee and control a galley team.
Youth Staff Youth Staff members coordinate, implement and encourage participation in a wide array of fun and interesting onboard activities for children ages 3 to 17 usually divided by age groups. Activities can include games, contests, scavenger hunts, sports and fitness instruction, arts and crafts and kids parties. They also provide supervision in designed areas while parents are enjoying activities. Children are to be supervised by Youth Staff at all times as well as ensure the overall safety of the Youth Program. Youth Staff may also be required to occasionally assist with Cruise Staff Activities.
Minimum requirements: University degree and a strong background in dealing with children in a recreational setting such as camp or daycare.
